Ok, I am totally building this:

http://www.oreillynet.com/etel/blog/2001/07/antenna_on_the_cheap_er_chip.html

I'll never look at a Pringles can the same. XD

And i'm supposed to be able to pick up a signal from over 10 miles with this.

Has anyone else ever messed with this kinda thing before?

My brother used to do stuff with it... I used to have a wok pan as a receptor dish. :p

I'd do it too, if it would be possible to to gain much reception while having the signal go right through a steel reinforced floor. Ah well. Simply stripping the casing of the stick improves the reception surprisingly lot, while dropping the temperature with around 10C too, which reduces the danger of overheating

( +heat = -reception - reliability +fire risk)
