Questions That Baffle Me
1. Why are males born with nipples?
I mean, what do we need them for? Ok, females use them for breastfeeding. Right. But with males.... milk doesn't come outta there unless something is REALLY wrong! Does anyone know the answer?
2. Why do females that hang around each other for extended periods of time gravitate toward around the same time of mensuration?
My sister and mom have been baffled by this strange phenomenon for years. Anyone know why?
(LOL, my family is very open to conversation on such subjects. Mostly because my parents are both nurses.)

EURGH *throws up my breakfast, lunch, dinner and intestines*
God... That's the sickest mental image anyone or anything has ever given me in the last 20 lives. But i do happen to (i think) know the answer to the first question. Men are the result of a an altered female fetus (or something in that general direction), so we still have alot of the stuff chicks have.

it's like this:
why do the robots when they're in the dark, huddle together? Random fragments of code....

Re: Questions That Baffle Me
Both good questions, and I have the answers to both, though the second is less concrete in its reason for existence.
As for number one, nipples are external parts of our mammary glands. Yes, even men have mammary glands, as mammals the existence of these glands are what separate us from other subgroups of warm-blooded animalia. All mammals have the instructions if you will for creation of mammary glands in their DNA, it is just that due to sex-specific hormones that certain parts of these genetic codes are more expressed than others. For females, the trait is simply more fully expressed due to the uniquely female hormones. Thus, it is physically possible for men to develop breasts, in fact 1 in 3 males will experience a swelling or tenderness of the breast during puberty because of the onrush of new hormones associated with adolescent development. Not to get too graphic here, but if you look at the differences and similarities between male and female sex organs, you will see that essentially all parts are present in both, just minimized or maximized or placed elsewhere due to sex-defining genes carried on the X or Y hormones. To put this in perspective, one must keep in mind that the majority of male and female's genomes are the same, sex differences occur only in a fraction of 1 of 23 chromosomes.
Whew.
As for your second question, it all boils down to pheromones. Women release pheromones during the menstrual cycle, and these will trigger the release of cyclical hormones in women who come in contact with them. Thus, each woman's competing pheromones will eventually bring the other women into a similar cycle. The phenomenon was first observed by Martha McClintock, who hypothesized that this occurrence exists because of an evolutionary advantage of having multiple women who are in close contact with each other at the same stage in the menstrual cycle -- if a horny prehistoric man came upon one impregnable woman, there would be plenty others ready to impregnate right with her.
Alrighty then.

Re: Questions That Baffle Me
So it's pheromones! Interesting!
And males have nipples, simply because we are so similar to females.
Excellent work Roger! Thanks!

Then walk yourself over to photobucket, type in cookie emoticon/smiley/emote or something along those lines, and I'll bet you'll find a small enough image for a cookie to use as a smiley on the forum
